    A:

It depends on the ship and your personal preference, but on a Yangtze River luxury cruise (Century and Victoria), the breakfast dress code is smart casual. You will never be asked to wear formal attire for the morning meal.

Breakfast on these ships is an unhurried, elegant affair served in the main dining room (usually a buffet with made-to-order stations). While you could come straight from the gym in workout gear, most guests choose a relaxed yet put-together look: pressed khakis, a collared shirt, or a nice blouse. Jeans are perfectly acceptable as long as they are clean and not torn. For early risers heading to the sun deck for sunrise views, a light sweater or jacket is wise—even in summer, the river breeze can be crisp.

The exception is on the first and last morning, when luggage may be collected the night before. Many guests wear their travel clothes (comfortable slacks, polo shirts) to breakfast before disembarking. Also note that some premium ships offer a “Captain’s Farewell Breakfast” where the dress is still smart casual, but you might see a few travelers in slightly dressier resort wear.

    > Director’s Note: Slippers, bathrobes, and swimwear are never appropriate in the main dining room at any meal, including breakfast. Please change into day clothes before entering.

If you are unsure, simply match what you see on the ship’s daily program—it will list any special suggestions. For every normal breakfast, a tidy polo or button-down shirt with jeans or casual trousers is the safest and most comfortable choice. The staff aim for a refined but unstuffy atmosphere; you will feel at ease without needing to over-pack.

We look forward to welcoming you aboard!
