It depends on the ship, but generally, no, you cannot purchase physical SIM cards directly on board Century or Victoria cruise ships.

Most of our Yangtze River cruises operate as floating hotels with a focus on accommodation, dining, and curated excursions, rather than comprehensive retail services. While our ships have reception desks and sometimes small gift shops selling souvenirs, toiletries, and snacks, they do not typically stock local SIM cards for sale. The logistical challenges of supplying and activating SIMs for a diverse international clientele, coupled with the rapid pace of port stops, make this a service better handled ashore. Furthermore, telecommunications regulations in China can be complex for foreigners, and our crew is primarily trained in hospitality, not mobile network provisioning.

However, there are important exceptions and alternatives. On some of our newest or largest vessels, the reception desk may offer assistance with connectivity by providing information on where to purchase SIM cards at upcoming ports. In rare cases, they might have a limited number of pre-paid data SIMs available for purchase, but this is not a standard amenity and should not be relied upon. A more consistent service is the availability of shipboard Wi-Fi, which is offered on all our 5-star ships. Please be advised that due to the river's geography, this connection can be intermittent and is best suited for messaging and light browsing, not for high-bandwidth activities.

Alternatively, consider an international roaming package from your home carrier or renting a portable Wi-Fi device (MiFi) for the duration of your trip.
