Q: Can I drink the water in the bathroom?

It depends on the ship.

On our international 5-star ships, such as the Century Paragon, Symphony, or Victoria Sabrina, the water in your bathroom sink is sourced from the ship's purification system. This water undergoes extensive filtration and is safe for brushing your teeth. However, I must be honest: I do not recommend drinking it directly from the tap. While it meets hygiene standards, the taste and mineral content can vary depending on our location along the river, and sensitive stomachs may react differently to local water sources, even when treated. For drinking water, we provide complimentary sealed bottles in your cabin daily, and there are water dispensers in public areas offering filtered hot and cold water.

The situation is different on our domestic 4-star ships or older vessels, which primarily serve the Chinese market. On these ships, the bathroom tap water is not potable and is clearly marked. It is for washing only. These ships provide a thermos of hot water in your cabin, which is boiled and safe for making tea or coffee, and you can purchase bottled drinking water at the bar or shop. This is a critical difference between the international and domestic cruise experiences, reflecting the different service standards and guest expectations.

Furthermore, on our international fleet, the water quality is rigorously monitored. However, I always advise guests to use bottled or dispenser water for any consumption, including taking medication, to eliminate any risk of minor stomach discomfort that could interrupt your vacation.

My practical advice is to treat the bathroom water as non-drinking water, regardless of the ship class. Use the sealed bottles provided in your cabin for drinking. If you wish to have a larger supply, you can easily purchase additional bottles onboard. The in-cabin electric kettle (on international ships) uses water from the same purified system, so it is safe for brewing tea or coffee once boiled. This simple habit ensures your journey remains comfortable and uninterrupted.
